PLOT What do you do once the one thing your life was all about is finally done and dusted? The fight is over, the war is done, finished. What do you do when what you've been struggling your whole life to put an end to is finally at rest? Rejoin the world? Find a job, settle down, have children when you've laid none of the ground work for a career or a family? Everyone else had a life before the fight but you, you were a child of it or completely absorbed by it, allowing it to shape your life or your most impressionable years. How can you go back to what your life was like before when you never had a chance to have a life before in the first place?
You heal up and step into the world, but everyone is going on without you and you feel yourself struggling just a little bit. You're unsure and that anger, that hatred, is still there, even though the war is over and it’s done and finished. You're looking at the world and all you see is gray; you're not quite sure where all the color and life has gone. You don't know how to get it back so you're just wading through it all, just struggling to find your way while everyone moves on as if nothing has happened.
Then, one day they come to you, people who insist they can help. They offer you a sort of life, away from everyone, up in the hills far away so you can scream through your frustrations; you can attempt to come to terms with everything that's happened. It's so hard to live in this real world where everyone else is getting on without you, so why don't you come with them where they can take care of everything while you find a new way to live, undefined by your role in the fight.
A small retreat was created for those who couldn't come to grips with everything, those who weren't plodding on through life as they should be. They were invited there, out of the way and removed from civilization to a small Wizarding outpost in the midst of a Muggle town. Those who created it fortified the Retreat with anti-muggle spells as well as a few of their own. No apparition is allowed, magic is rather limited and emotions are "heightened" as they like to put it. There's lots of anger, happiness, sadness, guilt, distress. A side effect to this heightening is the increasing libido of the occupants, something which the creators have yet to do anything about and it is getting steadily worse, all in the name of therapy.
